FAQ
Before you reserve your machine.
01What's the difference with a regular VPS or VDS?
A VPS/VDS is a VM on our hypervisor: you don't control the kernel, and some modules are restricted. HG-LAB is your own physical machine with BIOS access and full freedom over the OS and the kernel. Ideal for anything that needs nested virtualization (Proxmox, ESXi) or low-level work (custom drivers, GPU passthrough, etc.).
02Can I really install any OS?
Yes. Install via IPMI/KVM, we mount your ISO or install a template (Proxmox, ESXi, Debian, Ubuntu, AlmaLinux, Windows Server, Unraid). Once the OS is delivered, we never connect again unless you ask us to.
03What is the /24 LAN and why is it useful?
A private /24 is 256 internal IP addresses routed to your machine. You can put 200+ VMs or containers there, each with its own IP, segment, run VLANs, just like in a real datacenter. If you just want a simple homelab, you can ignore the /24, but it's there if you need it.
04I need several public IPs. Is it possible?
Yes, additional public IPs at 2€/month per IP. All protected by the Netrix anti-DDoS. Handy to expose several services in parallel without a reverse proxy.
05What happens if I break my server?
We reboot it via IPMI. If the OS no longer boots, we reload a clean up-to-date template for free (data is lost, so keep your backups). For real hardware failures: part replaced within 24 business hours.
06Is there a management panel?
Dedicated IPMI access to reboot / console / reinstall from your browser. No custom HG-Hosting panel on top: we respect your OS and your config.
07Commitment? Setup fees?
No commitment, simple monthly billing. No setup fee for the HG-LAB Compact (mini-PC). For the dedicated servers, setup fees are waived if you pay 3 months upfront, otherwise 49€ one time only.
08Does the price change at renewal?
No. The price you see is the price for life: no increase at renewal. You keep your rate for as long as you keep the machine.
09Do you help migrate from another host?
Yes, free migration. We help you bring over your VMs, your containers and your config to the HG machine, without charging you for the switch.
10Can I test before reserving?
No automatic free trial, but want to test before committing? Ask us by email or on Discord, we'll look at what's feasible depending on stock and your use case.
